How we test and research

Every recommendation on this site is labelled with how we reached it.

"Researched and compared"

We compare the manufacturer's specifications, the features that matter for the job, the price range and long-term owner feedback, then explain who each tool suits. We do not claim hands-on results for these products.

"Tested"

Used only when we have used the tool ourselves on real tasks. The page then says what we did with it (for example, the material and number of holes drilled), and only then do we show a score.

What we never do

• Copy star ratings or reviews from shops.
• Let a commission decide a recommendation.
• Show prices that might be out of date.
